Announcing Matthew Heffernan as incoming Chair of the Board of Directors at The Calgary Airport Authority
Incoming Chair and CEO thank Michael Casey, Q.C. for his service
Calgary, Alberta (Aug. 10, 2021) –The Calgary Airport Authority is pleased to announce the election of Matthew Heffernan as the incoming Chair of the Board of Directors of The Authority. Mr. Heffernan succeeds Mr. Michael Casey, Q.C. effective August 8, 2021.
“I’m looking forward to steering The Calgary Airport Authority to thrive as we recover over the next few years,” said Matthew Heffernan, incoming Chair of the Board of The Calgary Airport Authority. “Michael Casey did a remarkable job of helping management and YYC Crew navigate difficult times.”
Michael Casey’s term ends after first being appointed as a Director in 2014 and serving as Board Chair since 2017.

I look forward to working with our new Board Chair Matthew Heffernan.”
Originally appointed to the Authority’s Board by the Calgary Chamber in 2015, Mr. Heffernan was most recently the CEO of Banded Iron Group (formerly Zedi), a Calgary-based oil and gas technology and services firm. He currently serves on the Board of Dycar Pharmaceuticals and as an advisor to WaterSMART Solutions and Simplex Legal. He has served on many other boards including Executive Chairman of the Board for Blackbridge, a private company involved with satellite imaging for various companies and government departments. In addition, he is a former board member of Canadian Locators Inc. and the Van Horne Institute. Mr. Heffernan also served as a member of the Chairman’s Circle for the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Mr. Heffernan has extensive experience in executive management roles in technology, sales and business development including TELUS Corporation, Exocom, and an entrepreneurial venture, Outrider Technologies.
Appointers to The Calgary Airport Authority Board of Directors are the Calgary Chamber Long Range Planning Committee, the City of Calgary, Rocky View County and the Government of Canada.
