Calgary, Alberta – Today The Calgary Airport Authority announced to its 250 valued employees that the organization will be implementing a mandatory vaccination policy.

The policy concludes an internal review and engagement process launched following an August announcement by the federal government mandating all commercial passengers traveling by air – as well as all federal employees – to be fully vaccinated.

“The Authority and its employees remain committed to creating a safe environment for our guests and doing our part to support the health and safety of our community,” said Bob Sartor, President & CEO. “It was an easy decision grounded in our commitment to being a customer-focused and resilient organization. This policy is an essential part of helping our airport get back to normal as quickly as possible.”

The Authority has outlined a mandatory vaccination policy that:

• Requires all employees to disclose vaccination status,
• Provides alternative protocols for unvaccinated and partially-vaccinated employees, such as weekly COVID-19 tests, and
• Provides a process to seek accommodation for those unable to receive the vaccine based on protected grounds under the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Contractors and in-terminal partners will also be informed of the mandatory vaccination policy and required to have a similar policy in place or defer to the Authority's policy for compliance.

Key dates for the new policy include:

• October 18 – All Calgary Airport Authority employees must disclose vaccination status
• October 31 to November 15 – Unvaccinated employees or employees with a single dose must adhere to alternative protocols
• November 15 – All employees must be vaccinated

The Authority is looking into organizing vaccination clinics at YYC Calgary International Airport to ensure employees have easy access to appointments.
