YYC Optimistic About 2022 Recovery Wednesday, April 13, 2022 | Catgories: News Release CALGARY – The Calgary Airport Authority released its 2021 annual report today at its annual general meeting. The report showcases actions The Authority has taken to effectively navigate the ongoing challenges of the pandemic and to prepare for the anticipated rebound in passenger travel. “In 2021, we showcased our resilience and creativity to respond to the challenges and opportunities we faced while keeping guest experience at the forefront of all our decisions,” said Bob Sartor, President and CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. “Our people, our strategy, and the partnerships we’ve developed with stakeholders are paving the way for our recovery.” 2021 Report Highlights: YYC Calgary International Airport saw 6.3 million guests, an 11 per cent increase from 2020 but still significantly down from 18 million in 2019. In a historic move, The Authority restructured its debt to achieve the certainty needed to fund operations and plan growth strategically. Cargo landings increased by 12 per cent in 2021- on top of an 11 per cent increase in 2020 - to further strengthen YYC’s crucial role in the region’s supply chain. The Authority secured $57.5 million from the federal government for a major runway rehabilitation project that will create up to 300 jobs for Albertans over the next three years and ensure the airport can meet the demands of passenger and cargo traffic for the next 40 years. Safety remained a priority and The Authority once again received international accreditation for our #FlyHealthyYYC program. The Authority is forecasting between 10-13 million guests in 2022, moving closer to the pre-pandemic levels, as airlines announce new routes and schedules. “As I wrap up my time here as CEO, I am confident that The Calgary Airport Authority has the governance, strategy, and people in place to remain a significant contributor to the City, the region, and the community,” concluded Sartor.
