YYC Calgary International Airport and partners deliver summer travel tips

| Catgories:

CALGARY – The Calgary Airport Authority and its partners are sharing tips to help guests prepare for a smooth journey through YYC Calgary International Airport this summer.

Passenger traffic is anticipated to be near pre-pandemic numbers this July and August with approximately 58,000 guests passing through YYC each day.

“With the busy summer season around the corner, we know that guests are excited to travel to new places and reconnect with family and friends,” said Chris Miles, Vice President of Operations and Infrastructure at The Authority. “At YYC, safe and efficient operations that allow our guests to have a smooth journey is our number one priority. And by working closely with our partners we are ready to support our guests in their travel journey this summer.”

Several features are available for travellers at YYC to enhance their experience:

  • An online parking reservation system for guests to book in advance.
  • YYC Express, an online reservation platform that allows travellers to book their spot in the security line ahead of time.
  • Over 80 shopping and dining options.
  • Kids Zones and quiet spaces where families can decompress before their journey.
  • Our White Hat Volunteers to assist travellers with wayfinding and our Pre-Board Pals volunteers delight guests with pet therapy.

The Authority also offers the following tips for guests:

  • Plan in advance by checking with your airline for the most up-to-date information on flights and departures.
  • Arrive early to give yourself extra time to navigate the check-in, baggage, and screening processes. Arrive at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight

With the arrival of the busy summer travel season, a seamless, memorable travel experience relies on all the partners involved in the airport’s ecosystem, including airlines, security screeners, and border agents.

“CATSA, in collaboration with industry partners, has worked diligently to ensure a positive summer travel experience,” said Nada Semaan, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority. “While we are well prepared for a busy season ahead, it’s important to remember that wait times can occur during peak periods: please arrive at the airport well in advance of your flight departure time and be prepared for security screening. For tips on what to pack in your carry-on and checked baggage, please visit CATSA’s website at www.catsa.gc.ca.”

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reminds travellers to come prepared with the appropriate travel documentation and to be ready to declare all goods purchased abroad with their receipts readily available. Travellers arriving at YYC can save time at the border with Advance Declaration, which allows travellers to make their customs and immigration declaration up to 72 hours in advance of arrival and enables them to take advantage of the Advance Declaration express lane to save additional time.

“The CBSA wants travellers arriving in Canada to have a smooth border experience and invests considerable time preparing for the busy summer season and other peak periods, such as long weekends, major festivals and events. Travellers arriving at the Calgary International Airport are reminded to have travel docs ready and use tools like the Advance Declaration to speed up processing time,” said Lisa White, CBSA Port Director. “I encourage travellers to visit the CBSA website to learn more about travel tips, exemption limits, prohibited items and information about declaring their imported goods.”

With more than 17 million passengers expected to travel through YYC in 2023 – up from 14.5 million in 2022 - The Authority and its partners play an important role in creating first impressions of Alberta’s western hospitality and connecting people and places around the world.

We encourage travellers to visit YYC’s website and Twitter for the most up-to-date information for a safe, efficient journey.
