BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

Business Climate and Opportunities

The Calgary Airport Authority is a not-for-profit, non-share capital corporation, responsible for the management, maintenance and development of the Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Springbank Airport (YBW) ,under long-term lease from the Government of Canada.

The Calgary International Airport reached new heights in 2008 with passenger volume increasing 2.0 per cent to 12.5 million passengers annually, making YYC the fourth busiest airport in Canada. And, we are continuing to grow.

We are striving to continually improve our facilities and optimize commercial and business development. Over $1 billion has been invested since 1992 to renovate and expand airport infrastructure and a further $3 billion investment is currently forecast over the next 10 years to meet the needs of our region. A new International Terminal Building, new parking structures and a 14,000 foot parallel runway are just some of the initiatives that will be in place to ensure we remain Alberta's premiere international passenger and cargo gateway and that we are ready for the more passenger and cargo growth and the new and larger aircraft of the future. YYC is clearly the destination of choice for passengers, airlines and cargo operations.

The airport is currently contributing approximately $6 billion to the city's GDP (about 10 per cent of the economy) and providing 40,000 jobs; the future growth and development of YYC will only increase its position as an important economic partner and contributor to Calgary's continued economic development as a city.

YYC, it starts here.
